A different face from the midnight-blue 5206-6120 we have offered before: this Lord Matic Special wears a perfectly clear white dial with no aging, paired with an aftermarket solid steel bracelet. Same Daini hi-beat family, same Special-grade calendar work — a cleaner, brighter look for collectors who prefer silver-white over colour.

Seiko Lord Matic versus Lord Matic Special

Seiko launched Lord Matic in 1968 as the automatic heir to Lord Marvel, sitting just below King Seiko and Grand Seiko. Two factories then built two different watches under the LM name.

The regular Lord Matic uses Suwa’s 5606 (and related 560x) movement: 21,600 bph, 23 jewels, hacking, hand-winding, bilingual day-date and crown quick-set. It is thin, reliable and the foundation of later 56-series King and Grand Seiko automatics. Its calendar advances more gradually at midnight, and many examples use a plastic quick-set rocker that can fail if the date is corrected in the late-night danger window (roughly 10 pm to 3 am). Seiko rated standard LM to grade “C” accuracy (−15 / +25 sec/day).

The Lord Matic Special is Daini’s answer: Caliber 5206 (later 5216) at 28,800 bph, usually marked Special on the dial with the thunderbolt factory sign. Specials were regulated to grade “B” (−10 / +15 sec/day). Early 5206 movements add a true instant day-and-date jump at midnight — both discs snap together instead of creeping. The quick-set uses a more robust metal corrector rather than the fragile plastic wheel of many 5606s. (Seiko later simplified the calendar on 5216 and dropped the instant-change feature because the extra mechanism could itself fail if misused near midnight.)

In short: 5606 = Suwa, 21,600 bph, rolling calendar. 5206 Special = Daini, 28,800 bph, tighter regulation, and on this generation an instant midnight change.

This White-Dial Seiko 5206-6120

Reference 5206-6120 is a compact Special dress case of about 35 mm (roughly 41 mm lug-to-lug, 18 mm lugs). The white dial on this example is perfectly clear — no spotting, no haze, applied markers still sharp. The hi-beat 5206 automatic gives a smoother seconds sweep than a standard 5606 Lord Matic and the instant calendar that defines the early Special.

The bracelet is an aftermarket solid steel piece, not the original LM bracelet. It gives the watch a firm, everyday feel while leaving the case and dial as the original story.
