Seiko Lord Matic 5606-7190: 56-Series Dress Watch, Close to NOS (Fully Serviced)
The Lord Matic line, introduced in 1968, is the successor to Seiko’s Lord Marvel 36000 — the first high-beat watch sold on the Japanese domestic market. Seiko kept the “Lord” name and moved the story into automatic daily wear with the 56-series movement, the same family later used in King Seiko and Grand Seiko. This November 1971 Lord Matic 5606-7190 is that mid-tier at its cleanest: original, close to NOS, and built like a dress watch that still makes sense today.
From Lord Marvel to Lord Matic
Lord Marvel proved Seiko could run at 36,000 bph. Lord Matic took that prestige and made it practical. Caliber 5606 is automatic, hand-windable and hacking, with bilingual English/Kanji day-date and quickset. Diashock protection and a thin 56-series architecture made it one of Seiko’s most widely used high-grade automatics of the early 1970s. King Seiko 562x and Grand Seiko 564x sit on the same foundation, raised in beat rate and finishing. A 5606-7190 is the wearable chapter of that story.
A Sharper Case Than Most Lord Matics
The 7190 case is one of the more architectural Lord Matics. Planes meet compound curves in a way Japanese dealers still compare to 56 Grand Seiko geometry — less soft than early LM cases, more modern in profile. About 37 mm across, 41 mm lug-to-lug, 18 mm lugs, under 10 mm thick. Many 7190s are monobloc, opened through the crystal. Day-date at 3 keeps the dial useful without crowding it. On a close-to-NOS example the original mirror and brushed finishes still read as factory, not later polish.
Original Condition, Close to NOS
This watch is original and close to new-old-stock. The case lines are intact. The crystal is original Seiko. The 5606 automatic is running as it should. After more than fifty years, that combination is the point of the listing.
