Vintage Omega Genève Chronostop: Mono-Pusher Stop-Second, Mexico-Era Timing (Fully Serviced)

This is a classic late-1960s Omega Genève Chronostop reference 146.009 — Omega’s mono-pusher “stop-second” chronograph for short, decisive timing. Our example wears the sporting upright layout: dark slate dial, applied batons, outer 1/5-second track, date at three, and a sharp orange central chronograph hand. The dial shows a clean mirror-like finish with no aging — unusual and welcome for a tritium-era Chronostop. Fully serviced by our watchmaker in Japan; all functions working perfectly.

The Omega Genève line & the Chronostop idea

By the late 1960s Omega Genève was the brand’s youthful mid range — Swiss mechanical watches with playful design, beside tool lines like Seamaster and Speedmaster. Chronostop launched in 1966, moved into Genève in 1967, and strips the chronograph to one pusher and one central seconds hand. It won period design prizes and sits in Omega’s sports-timing story of the era, including use as an official Omega timer around the Pan-American Games and the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games (separate from Omega’s electronic Olympic systems that year). This piece is the classic upright Genève face — not a Dynamic/Pentatlon commemorative case.

How the Omega Chronostop times an event

Press the pusher at two to start the orange hand; press again and hold to freeze and read the seconds; release to flyback to twelve. No minute totalizer — perfect under about sixty seconds. Date models use Chronostop-only manual calibre 920 (17 jewels, 21,600 bph).

This Omega Genève Chronostop 146.009 — upright, not Driver

Drivers rotate the dial 90° for under-wrist reading; some dress variants drop the orange racing hand. This watch keeps the upright sporting layout with a vivid orange chrono hand on a pristine dark grey dial — the Chronostop look many collectors picture first.
