Vintage King Seiko 5621-7000 — White Dial, Classy, Minimal (Fully serviced)

A time-only 56KS from February 1970 in the early turtle case. Reference 5621-7000 has a clean white dial and no date window. The case is unpolished. The original brushed finish on that cushion shape is still there — and that combination is the uncommon part. Most King Seikos that survive are either later pointed-lug dress cases that have been polished smooth, or Vanacs. A 7000 turtle that still shows factory brush is the piece you do not see every week.

King Seiko and the 56 Line
Daini put King Seiko on the market in 1961 as the Tokyo reply to Suwa’s Grand Seiko. From 1968 Suwa built the automatic 56KS on the same 56-family architecture used for Lord Matic and 56 Grand Seiko. Three King calibres came out of that family:

  • 5621 — time only
  • 5625 — date
  • 5626 — day-date

This watch is the first of those. Collectors searching King Seiko 5621-7000, 56KS time only, and vintage King Seiko turtle case are looking for this layout: hi-beat automatic, clean dial, early monobloc case.

The King Seiko Caliber 5621
Caliber 5621 is the three-hand automatic of the 56KS line. Typical specification:

  • Automatic winding, with hand-winding through the crown
  • 28,800 bph (eight beats per second) — hi-beat for 1970, the same frequency Seiko put in King and Grand Seiko automatics of the period
  • Hacking seconds — pull the crown and the seconds hand stops
  • Robust Movement that become the building block for generations of Seiko watches

That last point is the practical difference. 5625 and 5626 add a date or day-date works, and the plastic quick-set wheel on those movements is the famous 56-series weakness. 5621 never received that part. What you get is the hi-beat 56 train without the calendar weakness: rotor, going train, balance. 5621A left Suwa less tightly regulated; 5621B was the tighter grade. Either way the architecture is the same one Suwa used for the 5641 Grand Seiko time-only — King adjustment instead of GS adjustment.

The Brushed Turtle Case
The 7000 case is the early automatic KS cushion — the shape people call a turtle. It is a monobloc (one-piece) shell: no screw back, movement out through the front, gold KS medallion on the reverse, and on many examples a small regulator screw between the lower lugs so the watch can be timed without opening it.

Factory finish was mixed: brushed surfaces on the case top and lug flats, mirror on the flanks. That brush is easy to erase. Fifty years of “just a light polish” is why so many 7000s now look like chrome. Later 56KS (7110 and after) moved to a sharper dress case and then a screw back. Vanac went angular with an integrated bracelet. So the unpolished brushed turtle sits in a small corner of the King Seiko family: early automatic, cushion case, factory hairline still readable. This one still has it.
