Reborn from forgotten time.
This is the only watch art project that deliberately selects aged and imperfect vintage Seiko watches to transform them into unique hand-painted horology artworks.
In collaboration with Matt — the British hand-painted dial artist based in Shanghai and one of the very few true masters creating authentic artwork directly on vintage watch dials — Samurai Vintage presents the Sky chapter of Project Phoenix.

When we discovered this vintage Seiko Skyliner 6100, it carried the gentle marks of time — a scratched crystal and natural aging spots on the dial. Instead of hiding these imperfections, we embraced them as the perfect foundation for our Sky element.
Dial Artist Matt envisioned a dramatic yet peaceful red sunset sky just before a storm — calm, expansive, and full of quiet power. He layered deep blues for rich texture and depth, transforming the original sun into a glowing pink-red orb. The masterful brushwork and painterly texture he applied make the entire dial feel alive and almost tactile.

To honor traditional Japanese art, Matt added elegant Japanese cranes (tsuru) soaring across the painted heavens. Cranes symbolize longevity, good fortune, and grace in Japanese culture — the perfect motif for this sky-themed rebirth.
This is no longer just a vintage Seiko watch. It is a one-of-a-kind hand-painted watch artwork — a true piece of movable horology art.
The Seiko Skyliner 6100-8000 is a refined classic from the golden era of Japanese watchmaking. Produced in August 1968 at Seiko’s Suwa facility, the Skyliner series positioned itself between everyday watches and the higher-end King Seiko / Grand Seiko lines. It showcases Seiko’s mastery of clean design, precision engineering, and elegant proportions during a highly competitive period in Japanese horology.
