Concept:
Seiko 6139, arguably the first automatic chronograph in the market.
When Zenith El Primero and the Swiss company joint force Caliber 11 are the first to come to watch geek's mind when they talk about automatic chronograph, Seiko is the actual the first company that launches the automatic chronograph movement in the market in May 1969.
What makes 6139 even more special is that this movement is the first automatic chronograph in space. In 1973, astronaut Colonel William Pogue brought his Seiko 6139 up to space during the mission as Person Item and the watch survived the mission without a problem, bring this movement one more beautiful story.
The example Pogue wore to space is a 6139 in Gold dial with the Pepsi bezel, this particular example we are offering today is a reverse of the Pogue 6139 Pepsi bezel with a black dial and a faded white chapter ring under the crystal. The Pepsi bezel has aged to a faded red and light blue colour, the white chapter ring has been aged to a yellow / pale yellow colour. The dial automatic font has been aged to fade as well. This example looks like is produced for the Arabic market with the arabic day wheel which is a rare find in Seiko 6139.
We choose to acquire this particular example because of its ageing on the chapter ring and its contrast give to the ageing bezel. The white chapter ring on this Seiko 6139 is more contrast and modern compare with the Seiko 6139 Pogue with Gold dial in my opinion.
The case of the watch is in a good condition. The caseback have experienced some polishing as the caseback text is a bit light.
Overall this Seiko 6139 reverse Pogue is a perfect example for your everyday wear and is defiently a conversation starter when you meet anyone who is interested in watches.
The watch comes with an aftermarket Seiko bracelet in a nice condition. Alternatively, you can pair the watch with a nato strap perfect for your everyday outfit without being too flashy!
