For vintage Seiko collectors, the 62 Grand Seiko (62GS) is a coveted treasure, but its premium price often puts it out of reach. At Samurai Vintage Co., we’ve scoured the market to bring you a worthy alternative: the vintage Seiko 6218 Seikomatic Weekdater. This collectible timepiece captures the essence of the 62GS’s heritage, offering timeless style and Seiko’s renowned craftsmanship at an accessible price.
In the 1960s, Seiko mastered the art of refining base movements for their premium lines. The 62-series movement, powering the Seikomatic 6218, is a prime example. This robust workhorse, with an 18,000 bph beat rate and Diashock protection, laid the foundation for the legendary 62GS movement found in King Seiko and Grand Seiko models. The vintage Seikomatic 6218 embodies Seiko’s innovative spirit, making it a must-have for enthusiasts of vintage Seiko watches.
This Seiko 6218-8010 Weekdater stands out for its striking design. Its stainless steel case, with soft curves and a mirror-polished finish, echoes the elegance of the 62GS. The mirror-polished sword hands, a nod to early Seiko references, add sophistication and inspire modern Grand Seiko designs. The bold, angular “Seikomatic” script on the dial exudes confidence, setting this reference apart as a collector’s gem among vintage Seikomatic watches. And because this is the early reference among the Seikomatic line, it is fitted with a Circlular logo above the Seiko applied logo this sign is unique to the Seikomatic lineup. Also the AD sign below the Day display box, shows that the watch have a Rhodium plated hour marker and this dial material mark is only available in the early reference of Seiko usually in the 60s.
The sunburst silver dial is a highlight, preserved in flawless condition with no signs of aging—a rare feat for a watch of its era. Designed for young professionals in the 1960s, the Seiko 6218 was meant to complement a suit in daily office wear. Heavy use often left these watches worn, making our mint-condition example a true find for collectors seeking a pristine vintage Seiko 6218.
