The Crystal:
Even though the technology for toughened glass and even sapphire crystal had existed for decades, almost all watches at the time had plexiglass glasses as crystal. The Citizen Crystal 7 made it different by featuring toughened glass in its product line giving the watch a sharp and scratch-resistant look and it nicely fashioned and modern at the time. Therefore the name Crytal 7 was created, and the 7 comes from the type of borosilicate glass called BK7.
Movement:
The movement we had in this Citizen Crystal 7 is an automatic 21 jewels Citizen cal 5204 with hand winding capability, beating at 18,000 bph. As you may notice, the watch is a day-date complication watch with day function placing at a unique position at 12 o'clock. This is a rare find for watch with day-date complication at this price point. The 52 series movement is proved to be very good at timekeeping; some people even say it is very close to Chronometer grade and Citizen Chronomaster line.
The case:
The case featuring a fluted bezel and a rather modern case size at 37mm is with polish and mirrored finishing. The watch feels solid on the wrist with any vintage leather straps.
All in all, the Crystal 7 is proved to be a successful product line, providing a wide range of affordable dress watches for Japanese market in the 60s. Today, we found the Crystal 7 still maintains its unique charm, as it is still one of the best entry points for entering the Japanese Vintage Watch world together with Seiko Lord Matic.
