The point was the calibre. Suwa’s 5606 is a 23-jewel automatic that can also be hand-wound, with hacking seconds and a quick-set day and date. It beats at 21,600. Seiko later used the same 56-series architecture, with higher finishing, in automatic King Seiko and early automatic Grand Seiko. Applied bar markers, dauphine hands, kanji day beside the date at 3. English and kanji share the day wheel. The green is a radial sunburst: dark at the edge, brighter through the centre, and it shifts as the light moves.
