It is thinner than the 61GS that came before it. Three calendar versions share the family: 5641 with no date, 5645 with date only, 5646 with day and date. All are 25 jewels and 28,800 beats per hour. The dial is marked HI-BEAT. That is Seiko’s own wording. It is 8 beats a second, not the 36,000 of the 45-series or 61GS. Suwa built the movement. It hacks, it hand-winds, and the date quick-sets. The same 56 architecture, in a less finished form, also sat in Lord Matic and automatic King Seiko. Brush on the top, polished flanks, a shape that sits lower and wider than the sharp 44GS. On this watch the case still reads as that 1970s cushion.
