The Seiko Lord Matic is a legendary timepiece that continues the legacy of Seiko's famous Lord Marvel Line. If you're a watch enthusiast, you may have heard of the Lord Marvel 36000, which was fitted with the groundbreaking 5740C movement that could beat at an astonishing 36,000 beats per hour. This watch holds a special place in the JDM market as the first true high-beat watch.

Seiko launched the Lord Matic line in 1968, hoping to create a new line of watches that could live up to the legacy of the Lord Marvel. This was no small feat, but thanks to the design genius of Seiko, they succeeded beyond anyone's wildest expectations.

The Lord Matic line was fitted with a sophisticated 56 series movement and high-quality case design and finishing, elevating it to a new level of sophistication. What's even more impressive is that the Lord Matic used to be considered one notch below the King Seiko line, but it quickly became a market sensation. The 5605 movement used in the Lord Matic became one of the most ubiquitous Seiko mechanical movements of the time.

This special new movement even formed the basis of higher-beat variants fitted to many of the automatic King Seiko and Grand Seiko models of the early to mid-1970s. In fact, the success of the 56 series King and Grand Seiko watches is largely thanks to the technical development of the Lord Matic 5605 movement.
